Multiple official copies of the death certificate will be required. See a list of reasons below:

- Bank accounts
- Cars, boats, other property
- Union benefits
- Insurance policies (one for each company)
- Safe deposit box
- 401 -K
- Pensions
- Outstanding loan or credit cards
- Veterans benefits
- Internal revenue (send in with next tax return)
- IRA (Individual Retirement Account)
- Stocks, bonds, other securities
- Treasury Bills
- Post office
- Proof of attendance at a funeral (for employers)
- Preplan funeral account with NYS Preplan
- For family member records
